UK house prices still going up – but a little more gently

UK house prices were up by 10.4% compared with October last year, but this was down from 12.1% in the year to September 2014.

In London, annual inflation was 17.2% – modest compared with the 19.6% reported by the Office for National Statistics in August.

According to the ONS, average “mix-adjusted” house prices in October stood at £283,000 in England, £172,000 in Wales, £137,000 in Northern Ireland and £194,000 in Scotland.

London’s average house price was £504,000, while the lowest average house price at £152,000 was in the north-east.

London, the south-east and east all had prices higher than the UK average price of £271,000.

Excluding London and the south-east, the average UK “mix-adjusted” house price was £206,000.

Again, excluding these two regions, UK house prices rose by 6.7% in the year to October.
